Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Learn, Grow and Be Yourself
Within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), we encourage children to be curious, independent and actively engaged in their own learning. Learning is not only about what children know, but also about how they think, ask questions, communicate, collaborate and find their own ways to solve problems.
Learning takes place in English and is built around inquiry, meaningful connections and authentic real-world contexts. Children are encouraged to explore ideas, make connections across different areas of learning, apply their understanding in new situations and explain their thinking. As they grow, they gradually develop greater agency and responsibility for their own learning.
The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child - academically, socially, emotionally and personally. We nurture curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, confidence and the ability to work effectively with others in a diverse international community.
Our teachers create safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environments where children feel confident to ask questions, explore unfamiliar ideas, take appropriate risks, make mistakes and learn from them. We recognise that every child develops in different ways and support individual strengths, needs and learning pathways.
Reflection is an important part of the learning process. Children are encouraged to think about what and how they have learned, recognise their progress and consider what their next steps might be.
Our aim is to help children develop a lifelong love of learning, a strong sense of who they are and the confidence to become independent, open-minded and responsible members of their communities and the wider world.
