Our Mission Statement
„We learn and grow together as curious, independent and responsible individuals who seek to understand the world around us and contribute to it meaningfully.“
International School of Brno is an open and inclusive international community for children and families from around the world.
Our mission is to provide a coherent educational journey from the Early Years through to the end of secondary school, supporting students to become independent, curious and responsible lifelong learners who are able to think critically, understand different perspectives and contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
As an IB Continuum World School, we are committed not only to academic growth, but also to the development of the whole person. We value wellbeing, relationships, international-mindedness, character and the skills students need to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
Strong partnerships between the school, students and families are an essential part of this process. We recognise that every student learns and develops in unique ways, and we aim to create the conditions in which each individual can discover, develop and fulfil their potential.
At ISB, we believe that:
- Every student should be an active participant in their own learning, developing agency and gradually taking greater responsibility for their progress
- Students learn best when they are encouraged to ask questions, inquire, explore and develop their own understanding
- Reflection, self-assessment and meaningful feedback are essential parts of the learning process
- Education should help students understand ideas and issues within both local and global contexts
- Learning becomes deeper and more meaningful when students make connections across subjects and apply their knowledge and skills in authentic situations
- Different perspectives, cultures and experiences enrich learning, and every member of our community deserves respect, inclusion and a sense of belonging
- Students need opportunities to take appropriate risks, make mistakes, reflect on them and grow in confidence and independence
- Education should support not only academic achievement, but also wellbeing, relationships, character and a lifelong commitment to learning
- Every member of our community contributes to making ISB a place where challenge, growth, respect and the joy of learning are part of everyday life
Our Three Core Values
Respect
Our relationships with students, colleagues and families are built on respect, openness and understanding.
We want ISB to be a safe, positive and supportive environment where everyone feels valued, where different perspectives can be expressed, and where we learn to listen carefully to others.
We respect different cultures, experiences, viewpoints and ways of learning. Discrimination, humiliation, exclusion or any form of abuse has no place in our community.
Hard Work
We believe that every student can grow and develop their potential. We therefore promote high expectations, perseverance, responsibility for learning and a willingness to embrace challenge.
Learning is not only about outcomes. Students also learn how to learn - how to inquire, research, think critically, communicate, collaborate, reflect and use feedback to improve.
Our aim is for students to develop increasing agency, independence and responsibility for their own learning and personal growth.
Fun
We believe learning is most powerful when students are engaged, see purpose in what they are doing and experience the joy of discovery.
We create learning environments that encourage curiosity, creativity, exploration, collaboration and authentic experience. Learning will not always be easy, but it should be meaningful, engaging and connected to a genuine sense of progress and achievement.
At ISB, Hard Work, Respect and Fun are not separate ideas. Together, they shape the way we learn, work and grow as a community.
