ISB Curriculum
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
In our Middle Years, all subjects are taught in English, with the exception of Czech Language, usually in classes of up to 18 students.
Learning in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) goes beyond the acquisition of facts and subject knowledge. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make connections, explore different perspectives and apply their learning in new and authentic contexts.
Each subject has clearly defined content and academic objectives, while learning is also connected through broader concepts and global contexts. This helps students understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters and how it connects to the world around them.
An important part of the MYP is the development of Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. Students learn how to communicate effectively, collaborate, work with information and sources, manage their own learning, think critically and creatively, and reflect on their progress.
Learning is designed to give students an active role. Teachers do not simply deliver information; they guide students through inquiry, discussion, problem-solving and independent thinking. Projects, research, practical tasks, presentations, collaboration and individual reflection are all part of the learning process.
Assessment in the MYP is criterion-related. Students understand what is expected of them, receive regular feedback and learn how to use that feedback to improve and identify their next steps.
As an IB Continuum World School, we provide a coherent learning journey in which the MYP builds naturally on the PYP and prepares students for the academic demands and increasing independence of the Diploma Programme (DP).

EAL - English as an Additional Language
For students who are new to English or who require additional language support, we offer EAL - English as an Additional Language.
The aim of the programme is to help students develop the language skills they need both for everyday communication and for successful participation in learning across the curriculum.
EAL focuses on speaking, listening, reading and writing in English, while gradually building students’ confidence in an English-speaking academic environment.
Language support is adapted to each student’s individual level and needs and, wherever possible, is connected to the language and learning taking place in their other subjects.
The aim is not simply to learn English as a separate subject, but to help students develop the academic language, confidence and independence they need to participate fully in the wider school learning community.
