Announcement from Head of School
ISB is an IB Continuum School
Dear ISB Students, Colleagues, Parents, and Friends,
It is a real privilege to share and celebrate this wonderful news with all of you. Following a successful authorization visit from the IB team, International School of Brno has been officially accredited to offer the MYP (Middle Years Programme) and has now become an IB Continuum World School.
This outstanding achievement and important milestone would not have been possible without the dedication, hard work, and support of our entire community, especially the MYP team. Thank you all, and congratulations! Jan Švihálek
I would also like to share Mr. Adrian Kearney’s letter below:
“Dear Jan Svihalek,
Congratulations on successfully adding another IB programme to your school’s academic offering. On behalf of the International Baccalaureate (IB), I’d like to thank you for the clear commitment to delivering the highest quality of international education. We wish your school community the very best as you take the next steps on the ultimate IB journey – programme implementation and development as an IB continuum school.
As an IB continuum school, you join a growing number of exceptional education establishments. Student-centred in approach and performing at the highest levels, IB continuum schools produce outcomes that students, their families, your staff, and the whole community can take pride in. Please do keep us updated with your successes and achievements – we all learn from one another and enjoy sharing IB successes from school to school, from educator to educator.”
Kindest regards, Adrian Kearney Director of IB World Schools |

Growing our Understanding |
Our Early Years Students explored how plants grow through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. They took responsibility for planting seeds, caring for them, and observing changes over time. Through this process, learners developed the PYP attributes of being caring, inquirers, and knowledgeable. Parents supported the learning journey by engaging in conversations and extending plant care at home. The unit concluded with a summative celebration, where students shared their learning journey, reflected on their plant growth investigations, and explained their understanding with pride and confidence. |

Exploring our Community Together |
Our Early Years learners celebrated their community unit through a hands-on summative experience filled with role-play as builders, firefighters, young chefs, recyclers, and little librarians. Parents were actively involved, joining activities, supporting play, and engaging in their children’s learning. Together, they built, explored, and even helped check out books, strengthening the connection between home and school. A highlight was the “missing cat” investigation, where families worked side by side using clues and fingerprints. These shared moments made learning more meaningful, memorable, and connected to real life. |

Sharing the Learning Journey |
Our Year 2 student-led conferences were a joyful and meaningful experience for everyone involved. In their homeroom classroom, students proudly shared their work, talked about what they have learned, and explained their goals in simple and confident ways. There was lots of laughter and warm connections as families and children learned together. These special moments helped students feel proud of their progress while building strong links between home and school. |

Light - Camera - Collaboration
|
In the PYP, developing risk-taking skills means encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones and embrace real-world learning opportunities. This spirit was beautifully reflected in a recent morning workshop on stop-motion animation, co-led by our students and a parent, highlighting the power of parent collaboration in enriching classroom experiences. By bringing real-life skills and creativity into the learning environment, this partnership helped students see meaningful connections between school and the world around them. The journey will continue as our Year 4 students take on the exciting challenge of creating their own films, exploring bizarre and mysterious worlds aboard their magical bus.<>

Technology, Morality and Ambition |
Year 8 students have been investigating and demonstrating 'moral ambition' while researching online and citing 'real' contemporary books as part of the Individuals and Societies Inter-disciplinary unit 'Social protests and Influential Voices.' The Inter-disciplinary units are a very meaningful component of the IB MIddle Years programme as they allow the students to bring their learning together across the subjects. |

Personal Project Exhibition |
We are incredibly proud of the Year 11s who recently presented their MYP Personal Projects, which allows them to explore an area of personal interest over an extended period. By finding what they are passionate about and then using the skills and approaches to learning they have developed throughout their education, they get a very clear idea of what assignments will look like in the IB Diploma Programme. It also sets them up to be productive, lifelong learners. |

Perspectives in Business Management |
Learning how to measure whether a business is successful or not is a complex task. The Year 12 Business Management students have been exploring the headings in a Statement of Profit and Loss in order as part of the finance unit. This allows them to break the complex picture up so as to be able to see and assess different parts of the whole. |

As spring settles in and the sunshine returns, there has been a wonderful surge of energy across our Wellbeing programme. The brighter days seem to bring even more happiness and laughter in the corridors, and a natural pull towards connection, creativity, and collaboration. It has been a joy to see students stepping outside more often, working together in fresh air, and bringing that warmth and energy back into the classroom.
Across all year groups in primary, students have been exploring what it means to understand and care for their emotional wellbeing in practical and meaningful ways. From learning simple breathing strategies to calm the body and mind, to reflecting on how emotions show up in everyday life, students have been building a toolkit of strategies they can use anytime they need to reset, refocus, or feel more grounded. There has been a strong sense of pride as students discover what works best for them.
Creativity has been at the heart of learning this month in PYP well-being. Music, art, and poetry have become powerful ways for students to express thoughts and feelings, especially as they explored themes like Earth Day, Identity, and Community Responsibility. It has been inspiring to see ideas come to life in colour, rhythm, and words, with students sharing personal and thoughtful reflections through their work.
Collaboration has also flourished in MYP, particularly as students worked together on projects that required teamwork, empathy, and communication. Whether navigating group dynamics, celebrating shared successes, or learning how to manage disagreements respectfully, students have shown real growth in how they support one another.
We were also excited in MYP to welcome a Master’s student from Masaryk University, who introduced students to the fascinating world of AI safety and prompting. This sparked lively discussion about technology, responsibility, and how we can use digital tools wisely and thoughtfully.
Overall, this season has brought a sense of optimism, curiosity, and fresh momentum to our wellbeing learning - a perfect reminder that growth often is accompanied by sunshine. |
