The event was a wonderful reflection of the IB spirit—fostering global-mindedness, respect, and meaningful connections. Together, we celebrated what makes us unique and what unites us as one learning community.

Sports Day

Sports Day was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, determination, and school spirit! Students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating resilience, collaboration, and a commitment to personal growth. Whether competing on the field or cheering from the sidelines, everyone contributed to an atmosphere of encouragement and respect. The event reflected key IB learner attributes, including being balanced, principled, and caring, while highlighting the importance of healthy lifestyles and community participation. It was a memorable day that showcased the power of perseverance, friendship and collective achievement.

MasterChef Workshop Inspires Creativity, Confidence, and Collaboration

The Recent MasterChef Cooking Workshop at Studio Divoka Varecka was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, collaborate, and have fun in a hands-on setting beyond the classroom.

As they worked through exciting culinary challenges, students strengthened their creativity, critical thinking, teamwork and time-management skills.

The workshop encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, adapt under pressure, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

It also highlighted the importance of communication, resilience and practical life skills while reflecting the IB commitment to holistic learning.

Most importantly, the experience inspired students to connect learning with real-world experiences in an engaging and meaningful way.

EARLY YEARS

Discovering How Plants Grow in Early Years

Our Early Years students had a wonderful time exploring the different parts of plants and learning how each part helps a plant grow and stay healthy.

Through hands-on activities and careful observation, they discovered that roots absorb water, stems hold the plant upright, and leaves help make food for the plant.

The inquiry sparked curiosity and excitement as students asked questions, shared their ideas, and connected their learning to the natural world around them.

By exploring real plants, children developed their observation, thinking, and communication skills in a fun and meaningful way.

This joyful learning experience reflected the PYP spirit of inquiry, discovery, and learning through exploration.

Year 1 Life Cycle Unit – Summative Share with Parents

Year 1 students were delighted to share their learning about life cycles with their parents, teachers, and classmates.

They used drawings, models, and simple explanations to show how living things grow, change, and develop over time.

It was wonderful to see their confidence as they proudly presented their work and answered questions from the audience.

Parents enjoyed being part of the learning journey; listening, asking questions, and celebrating their children’s understanding.

The experience was a joyful celebration of learning, reflection, and growing confidence in young PYP learners.

PRIMARY

Learning Beyond the Classroom at the Local Market

As part of their PYP inquiry journey, students visited the local cabbage market to explore seasonal produce, compare prices, and learn about the importance of buying local.

Engaging with vendors and observing the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables helped students make meaningful real-world connections to their learning.

The experience encouraged curiosity, thoughtful questioning, and a deeper understanding of sustainability and healthy food choices.

Students also developed communication, research, and critical-thinking skills while discovering how seasons influence availability and pricing.

This enriching hands-on experience reflected the heart of the PYP approach — learning through inquiry, exploration, and authentic experiences.

PYP Exhibition: Turning Inquiry into Action

The Year 6 PYP Exhibition (PYPX) has been a powerful celebration of student agency, international mindedness, and meaningful action. Throughout their inquiry journey, students demonstrated the IB Learner Profile attributes as communicators, researchers, thinkers, and caring global citizens.

PYPX by the Numbers

  • 11 field trips across 3 countries

  • 10 expert interviews with specialists from around the world

  • Formal emails sent to world leaders, including Jacinda Ardern — who responded

  • 54 library books borrowed

  • 334 research sources consulted (an average of 18 per student)

  • 51 survey questions created and analysed

International Mindedness

All 8 home languages within the cohort were represented, strengthening intercultural understanding and global perspectives:

Polish • Spanish • English • Slovak • Czech • Chinese • Japanese • Hungarian

Taking Action

Students demonstrated meaningful, student-initiated action through litter-picking campaigns, sponsoring red pandas, and fundraising close to 10,000 Kc for important causes.

The PYPX journey has empowered students to become reflective learners and active contributors to both local and global communities.

SECONDARY

Recording Podcasts in Language and Culture Classes

Our Language and Culture students have constructed a temporary podcast booth to record their podcasts about the literary landscapes of their mother countries. One of the great components of an IB education is that students get to reflect on and share their cultures and identities.

Spanish Collaboration with our Neighbours

Year 8 students met with the 7. Třída (Year 7) students from our neighbour school, ZŠ Čejkovická. They followed a speed interview programme to introduce themselves and get to know each other in Spanish. An excellent chance to practice their communication skills.

HIGH SCHOOL

Hands-on work in Design

Year 10 is bringing nature-friendly designs to life through bird houses, feeders, and insect hotels. Given the freedom to choose materials, many naturally gravitated toward working with wood; measuring, cutting, sanding, drilling, and assembling throughout the day. Design thinking, practical skills, and a workshop full of sawdust in action.

Year 11 Visit to the Vienna Technical Museum

We were delighted to take our Year 11 students to the Vienna Technical Museum as part of their interdisciplinary unit on Mathematics and Design. During the visit, students explored interactive exhibitions on sustainable energy sources, gaining insight into innovative design and mathematical principles and the way in which they can drive real world solutions.

Well-Being at ISB

As we approach the last months of another successful school year, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many ways our students have grown socially and emotionally across our school community. This term, our wellbeing learning has focused on the interconnected themes of balance, identity, gratitude, and community care.

Across the school, students have explored the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between work, play, rest, and personal wellbeing. Through discussions and reflective activities, students considered how healthy routines, meaningful relationships, and time for both achievement and enjoyment contribute to overall wellbeing.

In Primary, students have been learning about the difference between wants and needs, encouraging thoughtful conversations about gratitude, appreciation, and what is truly important in our lives. Students also explored traditions, culture, and identity; celebrating the diversity within our community and developing a deeper understanding of both themselves and others.

A highlight of this term has been the many community service projects undertaken throughout the school. Through our ongoing partnership with a neighbouring nursing home and other service initiatives, students have had opportunities to put empathy and compassion into action. These experiences have helped students recognise that wellbeing extends beyond the individual and that strong communities are built through kindness, connection and caring for others.

We are so proud of the ways our students have demonstrated growth, empathy, and a commitment to supporting those around them. Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community partners for helping create a caring and connected school environment.

We wish everyone a restful, joyful, and well-balanced last month of school!.
