"LEARN, GROW, AND BE UNIQUE WITH ISB"

FEBRUARY 2023 NEWSLETTER

EARLY YEARS

Handmade Marionettes

Their second unit of inquiry, all about telling stories through the arts, has provided opportunities for the students to use their creativity. Specifically, by designing marionettes that were brought to life through movement and dialogue. These little designers were proud to add a personal touch to their marionettes which enabled them to portray some of their own characteristics.

Little Prince Exhibition

Our Early Years students went on an adventure to Dietrichstein Palace and visited the Little Prince Exhibition. Through the interactive exhibit, our students were able to engage in different elements of the story. One such experience was sticking their hands into a giant mossy egg to find and feel a hidden animal, which they then tried to draw. They even listened to an audio book of the story and created a puppet show for their peers to watch. What a wonderful experience!

PRIMARY

Presidential Vote

Our native Czech students have been following the recent Presidential Election which has sparked good discussions and debates regarding the two candidates, Petr Pavel and Andrej Babiš. The students even recreated their own ISB voting station to gather votes from all of their peers. The ISB community congratulates Petr Pavel on his recent victory, as he will become the fourth Czech President in history.

Wheel & Axle Inquiry

In the Year 3 Science lesson, students worked together using recycled materials to create wheel and axle systems. Students inquired into different design methods, all while learning the importance of simple machines and how they can help us within our daily lives.

SECONDARY

The Ski Trip is Back

Students had a great time on our recent ski trip. These trips are a great opportunity for students to see the value in travel, independence, self-sufficiency and all the fun adventures that these bring.

Fibonacci Sequences

As important as it is to work with numbers in Math, it’s also important to think about them, their patterns and to play with them. Year 7s have been exploring the patterns to be found in numbers and were working together to produce posters to explain how to generate a Fibonacci sequence.

HIGH SCHOOL

Careers Presentations

As part of our ongoing series of ‘Careers Talks’ from professionals, we were very delighted to welcome Pauline Ivanyi, a professional psychologist and counsellor to our school. Our high school students were thoroughly engrossed in her talk, and the Q&A session was the longest we've ever had.

Partner Yoga

Year 10 enjoyed a partner yoga session in their recent PE lesson. Partner yoga is a practice in which two people support each other in poses in a way that enhances posture and builds trust and communication. The benefits of yoga are well established and so making it a more collaborative activity is the way we do it at ISB. Namasté.
