"LEARN, GROW, AND BE UNIQUE WITH ISB"

MARCH 2024 NEWSLETTER

EARLY YEARS

Inquiring into Patterns

Students are busy creating patterns both with their letters and through crafts. Patterns help children make predictions, as well as guiding them to make logical connections using their reasoning skills. Pattern awareness leads to higher level thinking and promotes later mathematical skills such as logic and algebra.

History Comes to Life

Parents were invited to a summative share, in which students created their own history channel to delve into the ancient civilizations. Key characteristics of these civilizations were presented in an engaging manner which highlighted their in- depth knowledge of the concepts they had inquired into. Research skills and academic honesty are an integral part of students' inquiry which was carefully sourced and displayed in their presentations.

PRIMARY

Transdisciplinary Learning

Transdisciplinary learning enables students to build concepts and skills across subjects rather than studying subjects in isolation. Here students are finding
equivalent fractions using number facts. The correct answers reveal space images which are linked to their current Transdisciplinary Theme, How the World Works and exploration into space.

SECONDARY

How are Fireworks Made

Have you ever wondered why fireworks have different colours?  In the lab, the Year 8 students performed flame tests to determine presence of different metal ions. The colour of the flame tells you which metal ions are present. With the help of our new lab technician, Ms. Martina, the students then wrote up their lab report to document and reflect on their knowledge.

Rise of the Ozobots

Our new Design class has been a lot of fun.  Students have been exploring the world of computing, 3D printing and are now learning the ins and outs of coding with the help of the Ozobots. By instructing the little bots on how they should react to blocks of code, students learn the basics of programming languages and robotics.

HIGH SCHOOL

Language Learning Techniques

When learning languages, it is important to provide students with the chance to communicate their knowledge.  Games are an excellent way to motivate students as it shifts the focus to fun so that they feel more comfortable taking risks.  The Year 11s have been playing a game in Spanish in which they describe an object and the rest try to be the first to spot it on the board.

Well-Being Assembly

The peer mediators club - which is made up of Secondary and High School Students - put on another excellent assembly this month, this time focussing on Self-Care.  They did an excellent job communicating the need for each of us to focus on self-care and presented many different options for looking after ourselves.  The guided meditation was especially effective.
