"LEARN, GROW, AND BE UNIQUE WITH ISB"

DECEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

EARLY YEARS

Puppet Playtime

Puppet play is a very beneficial activity that children can be exposed to from a young age. Puppet play improves creativity, language skills and social awareness. Our Early Years students have been inquiring into feelings and emotions. As a learning engagement, they created their own puppet play to showcase how they are feeling for their friends and teachers.

Keeping in Touch with Nature

From a young age our children inquire into nature and biodiversity. Our Early Years students are creating birdhouses to help protect them from the upcoming cold winter. They are learning to be caring and responsible towards their surroundings from a young age in the hope that they will continue to take action to protect Mother Earth.

PRIMARY

Digestive System

Inquiry and action are key components in ensuring that our learning engagements are both academic yet engaging. Here our students are inquiring into the digestive system using orange juice, bananas and crackers to see how our body functions by holding onto nutrients and disposing of waste.

Architects in the Making

Our students are learning about effective city planning, and what better way than having them design their own cities. Students are given the opportunity to inquire into a range of different city structures across the world, discuss the benefits and challenges cities face and then use their integrated maths skills like measurement and geometry to design and construct a model of their proposed ideal city.

SECONDARY

Making Inferences

Year 7 students have been investigating the meaning of words in order to build their vocabulary and develop their ability to make inferences.  Being a skilled communicator requires being knowledgeable about the language you are using.  As an off-screen task, students used physical dictionaries (remember those?) as their sources.

How to stay Safe online

Our Peer Mediator group took on the dual role of public speaker and coach recently while presenting all the ins and outs of staying safe online.  They proved themselves very knowledgeable while covering cyberbullying, online etiquette, how to be a principled digital citizen and of course, who to contact if you get into trouble online.

HIGH SCHOOL

Interviewing the Director of the English Theatre

IB DP students welcomed Czech Theatre director, Anne Johnson. Assuming the role of interviewer, they inquired into the process of transferring a text to the stage. Catch her latest play, Fast and Furiants by Stroupeznicky at Vesna. More info here:- www.czechtheatre.cz

Lab Dissection

Year 10 students recently put on their lab coats to investigate the anatomy of a pig heart.  In addition, they also took on the role of the teacher as they were visited by the Year 5 class and served as excellent communicators, teaching the younger students how to operate in the lab.
